“My story is reflected in my art. My work, as well as
myself, combines tradition and freedom”.
Yin Love
In Yin Love, Yin Lu turns memory, culture, and imagination into a luminous self-portrait. Inspired by childhood moments spent playing poker with her family, she reflects on life as a game of chance — each canvas, like a new deck of cards, full of possibility. The glasses she creates become a poetic lens on her world: day and night, Yin and Yang, sun and moon, all intertwined in balance. Fish swim through the work as emblems of her hometown, family roots, and abundance, while ladybugs bring her signature “Yinfinite luck.” Crafted with acrylics, pencils, paper, and clay, the piece blends tradition and playfulness. Through this rich tapestry of symbols and vibrant colours, Yin invites us to step into her world, where art becomes a bridge between past and present, East and West, self and others.

Australia
Yin Lu is a Chinese Australian visual artist based in Brisbane. Born in Guangzhou and raised between China and Australia, she embodies a dialogue between cultures. She graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Visual Arts and later completed a Master of Teaching at the University of Queensland.
Personal work
Working primarily with ink, acrylic, and mixed media, Yin explores identity, belonging, and cultural duality through bold and expressive painting. Deeply influenced by her Chinese heritage, she fuses traditional Eastern aesthetics with the expressive freedom of Western art. Using vivid colour, delicate lines, and symbolic narratives, her paintings often evoke femininity, birds, and natural motifs. In her universe, contrasts are not contradictions but bridges; the tension between restraint and expression becomes a language of harmony.
Beyond her personal practice, Yin is the founder of The Window of Yin, a creative platform dedicated to cross-cultural exchange and artistic dialogue. She also teaches art and craft, sharing her passion with younger generations. Her respect for the land she lives on and for its native owners is present in both her teaching and her art, as a reminder that creation begins with acknowledgment and care. At the heart of Yin Lu's work lies a quiet conviction: that art is both a mirror and a map — a way to trace who we are, where we come from, and where we might belong next.
