Genius Loci

Ttozoi

TTOZOI is an artist duo turning time,
nature, and decay into their collaborators.
Genius Loci
For the project, the duo TTOZOI applies their Genius Loci methodology to an unexpected format: a pair of glasses. Using organic materials like water and flour in sealed vitrines, they allow moulds to grow naturally over time, letting nature shape the surface of the object. The glasses become a living artwork, an image formed by life itself. As in their larger-scale pieces, TTOZOI initiates the process and then steps back, allowing time and organic matter to dictate the final result.

Italy
Stefano Forgione and Giuseppe Rossi known as the artistic duo TTOZOI, are self-taught Italian artists with backgrounds in architecture and economics. United in 2006 by a shared passion for Informal art, they develop works grounded in concept and form, time and matter, sparking a quiet revolution in experimental painting.
TTOZOI developed the concept of the 'intervention void', a process in which, after a simultaneous four-handed action on canvas, nature takes over. Mould grows naturally among textures, becoming a living language and leaving a lasting imprint, an organic signature that transforms surface and meaning.
Personal work
Their GENIUS LOCI project, curated by Gianluca Marziani and supported by MiBACT and the Archaeological Complex of Pompeii, involves creating site-specific works through mould growth on jute canvases. Using organic materials and natural pigments, the canvases are placed in sealed Art Areas for approximately 40 days, allowing time and environment to shape each work uniquely. TTOZOI guides this process, letting the mould capture the genius or soul of each location, forging a living memory that links architecture, history, and nature into an archaeology of time beyond the visible.
