TRACCE
Walter Bernardi's work features signs reminiscent of ancient rock carvings and precious mosaic tiles. These elements fit seamlessly into the surrounding material, creating a lasting impression that connects past and present. True to his artistic practice, Bernardi emphasizes timelessness and the enduring nature of art through these layered, tactile forms.
Walter Bernardi
Italy
Walter Bernardi is an Italian mosaicist and painter based in Mel (BL). In the early 1970s, after completing a two-year artistic mosaic course in Venice, he began his career rooted in the Venetian landscape tradition. Over time, Bernardi's work evolved to deeply explore the relationship between nature and its territory, moving beyond strict representation. This led him to develop an abstract approach where colours emerge from an imagined chaos, moving freely through space, sometimes fading into darkness, then bursting into light, clashing in contrasts of hot and cold, primary and complementary tones.
Personal work
Bernardi's art is a continuous process of transformation, with colour as a central, dynamic, and emotional force. Layers of vibrant hues and delicate transparencies create dreamlike spaces that invite viewers into a personal dialogue. Balancing spontaneity with careful control, he expresses inner emotions through rich and evolving colour harmonies. This approach offers a timeless and evocative experience where colour becomes the language that communicates the artist's vision and feelings.
In the 1980s, Bernardi co-founded the artistic group “La Meridiana,” which remains active today as a cultural promoter in the Belluno area. Throughout his career, he has taken part in numerous exhibitions, fairs, and cultural exchanges both in Italy and abroad.
